New Menu at Historic Darby’s Tavern

The historic tavern is the casual dining option at Berry Hill Resort serving guests and South Boston locals.

South Boston, Va. — The Historic Darby’s Tavern at Berry Hill Resort officially launched their new menu Friday, March 1. The new menu celebrates Darby’s historic roots and reintroduces Southern classics as part of the resort offerings.

“The historic Darby’s Tavern is the dining pillar of the resort,” said Steven Ouellette, general manager. “Our goal is to celebrate local traditions through our dishes by striking a balance between continuing to serve our loyal guests and attracting new ones.”

The tavern built its original menu around the history of the resort and this new menu is a nod to that history with expanded entree options and traditional side dishes.

The spoon bread is a perfect example of the nod to tradition. While the dish is popular throughout the Southern United States, spoon bread is thought to have originated with the Native Americans. Sarah Rutledge’s cookbook included the first print version of a spoon bread recipe in 1847 and it was surely served at Berry Hill throughout history.

“We want to keep the food fresh and interesting for our diners. And we want to give our customers a chance to try something different while keeping to our roots, said Greg Krepps, director of hospitality for Taylor Hospitality. “Since our arrival, we’ve taken a deep dive into our food and beverage offerings and looked at how we can bring back the history of the resort into every plate we serve.”

Some of The Historic Darby’s Tavern new menu items include:

  • Hush Puppies
  • Brunswick Stew
  • Chicken Pot Pie
  • Fried Chicken Biscuit
